Polymer resins hold a lasting fascination for Bonnie Merchant, who displays her sometimes whimsical creations at the Carnegie Art Center.
   "I mix the polymer resins, a clay-like substance, with pigments to create the colors or patterns that I want. The pieces are formed by hand, shaved, cut--whatever strikes my fancy--and then baked at 300º F," she explains.    Some of the pieces are laminated and cured up to five times to achieve the right "look" or "feel." She also is adept at sanding, polishing and drilling the works.
   The works are durable and can be cleaned with soap and cold water.    Bonnie operates under the company name, Bonita. Many of her other creations can be viewed at her website:
