Hank Weber Vancouver, Washington I have been painting for about 17 years. I have no formal degree in art, but have taken classes at Pacific Northwest College of Art, and at Marylhurst college. I've also attended numerous painting workshops by leading local and nationally known artists. I've won several awards in local shows, some of the most recent being First Place Awards in the 2003 and 2004 Columbian Artists Association competition, 2002 Southwest Washington Watercolor Society Show, and Best of Show in the 2001 Lake Oswego Open. I've also earned signature membership status in the Northwest Watercolor Society and active (juried) memberships in two other Northwest societies. Presently, I am represented by four art galleries in Oregon and Washington, including the Carnegie Center in Oregon City.

Currently I am working with mixed watermedia which means watercolor, gouache, and acrylic in various combinations to produce texture and color intensity. When people learn that I am an artist, they sometimes ask "what" I paint. In fact, the process of painting is more interesting to me than any particular content categories, so I find myself venturing into abstract as well as representational painting, experimenting with various styles of painting, and allowing my imagination and sense of humor to influence more and more of my work. If any subject matter has
been my mainstay over the years it has been landscape, where I endeavor to
communicate atmosphere, energy, and a "sense of place" rather than to
reproduce scenes with photographic accuracy. Thie Northwest, and
particularly the Columbia River |
