James Roddey
Oregon City

 Roddey has been a landscape and wildlife photographer since he was a pup. For the last 15 years, the enduring monumental and often intimate landscapes of the west have inspired the Oregon City resident to capture these magical places in light and form.

From the startling pictographs of a hidden canyon to a fleeting sunset atop a mountain bathed in light, the images revealed become a spiritual connection to the land, he says.

His work has been exhibited in galleries around the country and is currently on display at the Carnegie Center in Oregon City, as well as the Sky and Earth Gallery in Bend.

His says his recent interests involve image manipulation — “creating a sometimes abstract, sometimes impressionistic appearance to the finished work. This technique makes for a very soothing and orginal outdoor panorama."

With the aid of a computer, Roddey often enlarges his "digital watercolors" to extraordinary size.

Roddey's appreciation for the earth's beauty extendes to his work with the Oregon Department of Geology.
