CREATIVE STATEMENT
"The stress and
struggle of life is always visible, yet in its midst, I seek a window
into a more peaceful world that observes the natural beauty of light and
color.
I begin a painting with a few simple action lines and then block in a
color map. Then I add multiple layers of loosely applied color to mimic
complex color found in nature.
"The painting soon “tells” me what to do next, and I adore running with
my instincts.

Proud As A Peacock
"This is 11 1/2x15 3/4" (image size) and is done on
terra cotta sanded Windberg pastel paper. It is done with 100%
colored pencil. I went to a Bureau of Land Management wetland
preserve near Mt. Hood (Wildwood), and the pond was semi-frozen with
this brightly colored maple leaf stuck in it. I loved the colors of
the leaf and its proud stance. It was as though it said, 'pay
attention to me, I can do anything despite the odds.' Considering
the climate of the world, I felt this was an important way to mold
our thoughts in all facets of life—buoy yourself to overcome.
Backlit Camp
"Backlit Camp is framed 16x20" with an image of about 7 1/2"x11". It is done in 100% regular colored pencil on black, 4-ply museum board. I was fascinated by the light coming through the trees in a sort of dreamy way, and I loved using analogous colors to show the different colors of green."

Sunset In The Neighborhood
"This is framed 20"x28" and is 100% colored
pencil on Wallis sanded pastel paper. After watching a number of
brightly colored sunsets across the street, I decided to capture
this one for myself. I was fascinated to see the variety of colors
in the sky versus the subtle light on the foreground."

Pueblo
"Pueblo is about 7 1/2" x10" and is done on white Stonehenge paper in colored pencil. It was inspired by the complementary colors of the pueblo and the beautiful blues in the doors and window frames. The oven and ladder also captured my interest, as did the fact that people have been living in this area for well over 400 years. I like seeing how many slight variations can be seen in
a pueblo wall."
