Fung is a Portland photographer who grew up in the San Francisco
Bay Area and moved up to the scenic Pacific Northwest to take
advantage of the beautiful landscapes and costal seascapes such as his
"Tidal" work above.
He has been photographing since he was 14 years old and was influenced
by his grandfather who was an amateur photographer.
"Grandpa often would dress us in Chinese costumes and make us pose for
hours until he could capture an emotional statement," he recalls.
That same attention to detail and patience helped Fung develop his
eclectic vision. His favorite subjects are Great White Egrets and
Herons in the Golden Gate park of San Francisco. To achieve the right
shot, he spent hours waiting in a meditative process
before pressing the shutter button.
Fung says he uses different types of camera equipment ranging from 35mm to large
formats, but "I have a special love for the toy Diana camera that can
evoke an ethereal feeling with a $1 plastic lens," he says.
"I am always striving to create a painterly light that you see in the
old Dutch master paintings but with this type of camera, you never
know what you will get -- it's always an exciting surprise for me," he
says.
Fung's latest project "Tidal Light" at the Carnegie Center in Oregon
City is an evocative collection of photographs from California, Oregon
and Washington. To see more of his works,

He has exhibited his work at the City of Gresham Visual Art Gallery,
the Buffalo Gardens on Alberta Street and at the University of
California Berkeley Campus.
